Grand designs and gardening

Today (and every day for what seems like months) we’ve been hard at work on our grand design for the garden. Faced with the need to dig a long trench half a metre down (for the electricity cable to go in), my husband and I have been shovelling mud, rocks and builders junk out of what used to be a very neat garden, to form an unsightly mound right down the middle of our lawn.

If I was still depressed, this would have been an absolutely fantastic example of a distraction from depression hard at work – It’s tiring, satisfying and time-consuming, and gets you outside for some ever-needed fresh air. Once our plans are finally complete, we’ll also be able to look back and say ‘I did that’ – which is one of those fulfilling thoughts that depression hates.
